Biiah 2015 is a conference led by NYU Abu Dhabi and the Ecoherence Student Interest Group. It will take place on Nov. 21st, from 9.00am - 6.00pm, in New York University Abu Dhabi's (NYUAD) Saadiyat Campus, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Biiah 2015 is a one-day event that attempts to re-shape how we address the climate change movement. By tackling its central philosophies and questions through the lens of humanities, arts and sciences, the day hopes to question how human beings relate to climate change, and climate change action. Participants will include environmentally engaged individuals from other schools and universities in the United Arab Emirates, as well as experts from different academic disciplines.
Biiah 2015 breaks away from a traditional conference structure by offering participants a chance to learn from each other through panels, workshops, readings, art exhibits and interactive simulations.
Notable events include a panel led by prominent youth activist Kehkashan Basu, a workshop by former member of the Greek Parliament, Sophia Kalantzakos, a play reading by director and playwright Abhishek Majumdar, and discussions with the Environmental Agency of Abu Dhabi. The day will culminate with a reading of short plays in collaboration with Climate Change Theatre Action, a series of worldwide readings and performances intended to bring awareness to, and encourage discussion around, climate change. Playwrights include Chantal Bilodeau, Amahl Khouri, Arthur Kopit, Neil LaBute, Abhishek Majumdar, Chiori Miyagawa, Sitawa Namwalie, and Saviana Stanescu.
